The competition and boat wagon

The competition

The competition consists of two 500-metre board-to-board races. It is important that you know how to do a start from standstill, and how to scratch. Scratching ensures that you quickly stay straight at the start, ask your coaches to practise this during a training session.

Boat wagon (BoWa)

Exactly what time the Bowa will be there on Friday and when it will be there on the way back will be communicated.

Furthermore, we are taking with us to the north:

  • Two sets of singles
  • Two sets of bokjes
  • De Ooievier + ores
  • Strandplevier + ores
  • The riggers
  • The drukstangen
  • The seats
  • The roertjes
  • The compo toolbox

Draw and timetable

What are draws and block schedules?

Block schedules are often announced several weeks before the match. Then you already have an indication of when you have to start. For example, if you already know that you will start in Pool 3, you often already know when to row finals and preliminary races. The preliminary schedule you find here.

Drawings are a bit trickier. When registrations close, the race committee takes a while to make a format. That race format is called a ‘draw’ because it is done on a random basis to make it as fair as possible. That draw takes place several days before a race - which is also why you won't know your exact start time until so late.

The draw for the Aegir Spring Sprint is Wednesday evening 19 March and can be found here.

What should you bring?

  • 10/13
  • Competition clothing + thermo! I don't want to see bare legs or arms when it's under 10 degrees!
  • Jacket Tie for after the race
  • Enough snacks, drinks
  • Warm clothes for after the race
  • (Gear to spend the night)
  • OV bike

Steering course

All steers must know the course. All the information can be found in the official steering instruction which can be found here.

In addition, steers should also attend the steer meeting. Make sure you are on time! If you are not there, you may not start the race either.

Locatie Aegir Lente Sprint

Hoornse meren

The Aegir Spring Sprint will be held on the Hoornse Meer. You can find the lake a 15-minute bike ride from the centre of Groningen - so an OV bike is mega handy this weekend! You can also bring your own bike. OV bikes often run out very quickly.

Train and Public transport

As I mentioned earlier, it is useful to be in Groningen the night before. There are some trains going at night, but it is exciting whether you will make your reporting time. If you are not there on time, there is no guarantee that you will still be able to start! This could then result in a fine.
